The Indian Army is likely to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Indo Russian rifles Private Limited in February, for the procurement of over 7.5 lakh at 203 rifles. Top officials have said that about one lakh rifles will come directly from Russia and the remaining will be manufactured by the Indo Russian joint venture in India. The Indian Army has appointed a major general as the chief executive officer of the joint venture firm, and the firm has already obtained all the requisite licenses for production and export to other countries.
